Regarding the food of Maryland, everyone immediately thinks of the crab. It is like a scene from Forest Gump, with the exception of the myriad of crab preparations instead of shrimp. But what are the others who should try Maryland Foods?
When I went to Ocean City, Maryland, I consulted the inhabitants and I had a lot of experimentation to come with a limited list of the best foods from Maryland of Ocean City (and where to find them!) So, loosen your belt loop and forget the beach bodies and prepare yourself to eat.
Must try Ocean City Maryland Food
Blue crab a beloved and emblematic symbol of Maryland, with a crab story that goes back to when the Native American tribes have harvested and consumed the local blue crab. In the mid -1800s, the commercial crab became widespread in the Chesapeake bay region and the crab industry took importance throughout the 20th century, Baltimore becoming a major center for the treatment and distribution of crab.
Today, blue crab is not only a staple in Maryland cuisine, but also an important part of the state’s economy and cultural identity, with festivals and annual events celebrating beloved crustaceans.
Steamed crab

If you have never used a mallet to break the Crab from Maryland cooked with cooked steamed with a lot of Old Bay seasoning and spread over a paper tablecloth, you have to change that! In Ocean City, local favorites for steamed crab are the Crab bag for the “best Ocean City crabs” and Hoops Crab House also obtains high notes for his unlimited crab festival like a “essential”, while others think that he has passed.
Crab cakes
You don’t want to work for your supper? Crab cakes facilitate things and in Ocean City, they make them in the right way – with a lot of pieces of crab and minimum plumes. If you wonder where to go, a popular restaurant for its “famous” crab cakes is Pub & Restaurant cornerswhich also offers a crab dip and a crab soup cream.
Imperial crab

Another way to try your crab is made of imperial crab. This classic seafood dish consists of crab hats in pieces mixed with mayonnaise, seasonings and other ingredients such as bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce and the seasoning to Old Bay. The mixture is then cooked in a saucepan dish until it is brown golden and served hot.
In Ocean City, restaurants often have their own variations in imperial crab, adding ingredients such as cheese, peppers or even lobster meat. We had a delicious version at Harrison’s Harbor Watch restaurant.
Rocky

Of course, food from Maryland is not a question of crab. Roche fish, also called a striped bar, is the official state of Maryland, so clearly it must be a must by visiting Ocean City. The fish has a sweet and sweet flavor and a firm and scaly texture, which makes it a popular choice for grills, frying and cooking. Since it can be prepared in many ways, if you are a love of seafood, choose the one you like in one of the many seafood restaurants of Ocean City and go for it.
Thrasher fries

Thrasher’s fries have been tempting Visitors to the Ocean City since 1926 and have always been a favorite food for the promenade made from the simplest ingredients … Potatoes, peanut oil, apple cider vinegar and salt.
Since the fries are my favorite food and the fall of the diet, I was crushed that Thrasher was closed during our visit during the dead. So, take advantage of a bucket in summer, but run a few lengths from the walk to work them.
Fractured Plum Donuts

Fractured Plum Donuts are always hot and freshly soaked with tasty fillings and they are all the rage at Ocean City. Instead of donut rows, you choose your flavor and they make them come out and violate them just in front of you with attractive flavors like the OC sand, s’more and the peppermint pancake.
Fisher popcorn

Fisher’s is another basic food for the promenade since 1937, specializing in caramel popcorn, but also offering other flavors such as peanut caramel, cinnamon caramel, flavored butter, white cheddar and old bay.
Smith Island cake
Smith Island Cake is a dessert from Smith Island, a small island community located off the eastern bank of Maryland in Chesapeake Bay. It would have been created by the women of Smith Island, who would cook cakes for special occasions and holidays.
The popularity of the cake has spread beyond the island, and it was officially declared the dessert of the state of Maryland in 2008. The cake consists of several layers of thin yellow cake with a creamy frosting between each layer, generally prepared with a mixture of sugar, milk, flour and butter. The cake is then covered with chocolate frosting or more frosting.
While Smith Island is the most famous place for the cake, it can be found in various bakeries and restaurants across Maryland and the East Coast region, including certain locations in Ocean City such as the original Smith Cake Company and Higgins Crab House.
Beef of the Maryland pit
Maryland Pit’s beef is a unique barbecue style that comes from the Baltimore region, made from beef in thin slices which is grilled over high heat until it is charred outside but still pink and juicy inside. It is then served on a Kaiser roller with raw onions and a spicy horseradish sauce, although other toppings such as cheese or barbecue sauce can also be added. It may not be a gastronomy, but it is delicious.
While the beef of the Maryland pit is most often associated with the Baltimore region, a popular place to obtain beef at the Ocean City is the bull on the beach, a local place with several restaurants at Ocean City which serves their own point of view on the classic dish.
Oysters from the Chesapeake Bay
The bay of Chesapeake is the largest estuary in the United States and agriculture and the harvesting of oysters was a major industry in this region. These oysters are known for their unique flavor profile, which can vary depending on the location and the season during which they are harvested, but they are generally dodus and fleshy with a slightly fundamental taste and a sweet finish.
Maryland was actually the first place where I tried oysters and they were a little too dodus for my taste, but I since came to love oysters. In Ocean City, try the oyster shooters from Ropewalk and the raw bar at Seacrets and Blu Crabhouse and Raw Bar.
Fishing dumplings

If you are ready to venture out of Ocean City, make a day trip in the charming little town in neighboring Berlin, Maryland. The Cake Dessert CAFE manufactures the most amazing fishing dumplings and they were named the official dessert of Berlin. Arrive just early before exhausting!
Marais mud ice cream

If you are ready for a parallel journey from Ocean City, Cîtmery Island in Chincoteague, VA is so proud of their marsh iced cream that they even made t-shirts with the flavor. This super chocolate flavor is homemade and an excellent way to complete a day of ponies observation.

Today, Dumser’s Dairyland serves a wide variety of ice cream flavors, including classics like chocolate and vanilla, as well as more unique flavors such as blueberry pie and the crunch with apple caramel. The ice cream is made on site using fresh ingredients and traditional methods.
