While I look at the number of pants in decline in my cupboard that corresponds, I start to regret the research that has entered this article. But I can say with confidence that I do not regret a bite as it was going. We only had three days in Memphis during our road trip of mother -daughter civil rights – but we wrapped it, in more ways than one.
Before leaving the house, I did my typical research – I checked some blogs, read some restaurant reviews on Tripadvisor and published on Facebook to request recommendations. It left me more options than we could sneak. However, when we arrived, I started talking to the inhabitants of what they liked and it quickly made me move the plan to prioritize these new discoveries.
Armed with all these recommendations on the place where to eat with Memphis, we went to explore through our stomachs. These are our favorites.
Where to eat in Memphis
South style kitchen of Alcenia

We heard about for the first time Alcenia of the queen on our Tour of possibilities History tour. When we finished our tour, we headed directly and we were welcomed by the owner with a hug, making us immediately feel at home and part of the Memphis family.
The decor is as hot as the staff, a colorful oasis in a district otherwise dull. The menu focuses on the food of the soul of southern style – not pretentious, just delicious. While Alcenia has gained popularity by appearing on the Food Network, Travel Channel and Oprah Magazine, we saw a mixture of tourists and locals, eliminating the feeling that we inadvertently entered a tourist trap.
We were there for Saturday brunch, which included a ridiculous quantity of food and the best sausage pancake that I have ever tasted. Of course, that did not prevent me from taking Hannah’s fried chicken. It is the Southern Soul Food to its best. Go here the next time you are in Memphis!
Alcenia’s is located at 317 N. Main Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38103, (901) 523-0200.
The Arcade

THE Arcade is not only the oldest café in Memphis, this is also where Elvis frequent (they even have a fried and banana peanut butter sandwich!) Located in the south, it is also an excellent place for breakfast before visiting the National Museum of Civil Rights.
Just be ready to wait unless you have reserved an online table. Offering classic dinner dishes, the arcade is better visited for its benchmark status than inventive cuisine, but that does not mean that it is not tasty.
The arcade is located in 540 s Main St., Memphis, TN 38103
The beauty store
THE Beauty store Maintains part of the decor of his previous life as a real beauty store. Based on the decor, I thought that the food would reflect the retro atmosphere. What I did not expect was such a modern, healthy and delicious cuisine.
I think all the barbecue and heavy foods arrived in Hannah because it ordered a series of small plates, mainly fruits and vegetables. I guess it is quite unusual for a teenager because the waitress asked if she was vegetarian.
I went with the pork chop and marinated fishing, because I do not remember the last time I had a pork chop because I always expect them to be hard. This was made with grilled peaches, confused blueberries, cream corn, chicharons and green onions – a perfect example of modern and fairly tender cuisine. Hannah’s dishes were also delicious and Romanesca cauliflower was really a little remarkable.
The beauty store is located at 966 Cooper St., Memphis, TN 38104
BBQ Central

BBQ Central Appeared on all our recommendations lists and since Memphis is known for barbecue, he has also made our list. Memphis is really a sprawling city and we wanted to explore its many districts. Thus, while Central BBQ actually has three locations, we chose Midtown to launch our food turn via Memphis. You order at the counter, then sit in the dining room or the outdoor patio and wait for your order.
BBQ Nachos are something for which they are known, but we started with their BBQ fleas done by hand. I was happy that they offered a combined plate, so I was able to sample not only their ribs, but also the chest and pork pulled. (And Yowzer was this good chest!) Add a few sides and a roll and a combined plate is equivalent to lunch for two with leftovers. Do not miss a stop at one of the three locations of the Central BBQ when you are in town.
Midtown location: 2249 Central, (901) 272-9377. And you can also order online!
Gibson’s Donuts

I am an aspiring for a good donut store. We live in Rhode Island after all – which sometimes looks like the world capital of donut. When I heard about GibsonWe thought of stopping out of the city in the last morning, because it was a whole trip from our base in the city center of Peabody. Then I looked at the card and I made that when we were at dinner in Hog & Hominy that we were at the corner of the street. So the problem solved. Dessert for a day, breakfast for the next all a few minutes by car.
Gibson’s is not hipster… He has the appearance of an old -fashioned donut shop. But that does not prevent him from offering options like Maple Bacon. My favorite was ordinary glazing – not that I tried too much 😉 Oh and bonus – they are open 24 hours a day.

HOG & HOMYNY

With a name like HOG & HOMYNYYou could expect a pork chest and grains, but I was surprised by their Italian cuisine with a southern touch. We actually started with the Putin, which felt neither Italian nor in the south, but it was delicious.
We then divided a pizza into a wood fire and in platforms more than sit for two. The most difficult thing in addition to choosing a pizza is to find a parking lot, so I would recommend going early and avoiding lunch time when it could be more difficult to park illegally in one of the neighboring companies. But don’t worry to stay for a while. With short bocce on the back, you will want to take your time.
