Well, why should I not?

Ten days ago, I returned to Europe in Asia, and I already feel trapped, even in my beautiful Sardinia. As a traveler, that is no longer enough. I need to move to be happy. Even if it was only for a few weeks before returning to work.

Where did I have the idea of a United Kingdom’s trip to Spain by ferry and train?

  • The factor of passion: First of all, the people who know me are fully aware that I like boats and ferries. Since I was back in Europe, my friends in the United Kingdom have been constantly asking me to visit them, and I also like Spain. Without forgetting that I have to practice all these perfect Spanish sentences that I learned on the road, right? Perfect combination!
  • The adventure factor: It is more adventurous to get on a boat / ferry than a boring and cheaper plane! Or maybe it simply reminds me of my years of adolescence of freedom, looking at sunset on a bridge and dreaming of distant places.

Ferry is the most romantic means of transport for me. It is an alternative travel experience, and above all, taking the ferry is the only way to bring your car with you without the hassles of renting one. A win-win situation for a different approach to your vacation!

That said, I’m still in the dream process here. But when I start to dream, I also start the search process to see if it is possible and check all the possible combinations to reach my destination.

So let’s start dreaming with my itinerary for this incredible ferry / road trip!

Plus: I’ll tell you step by step how I can make it possible

map

The route:

Sardinia ——> London (by plane) ——-> Poole (by train) ——–> Ferry to Gijon——–> Madrid (either by car or train, by bus or in any vehicle that I find available!)

How long will the trip take?

I did research online to see the best options, including theft, the train to Poole, Ferry, And the road trip in Madrid. I calculated around two days.

The ferry is the means of transport that will take most of my time (25 hours), but it is the best part, with the road trip in Madrid.

The goal of that slow journey reached my final destination by take advantage of everything elseSo being on a boat for a long time is something that I look forward to.

The ferries covering these routes are generally entirely equipped with restaurants, bars and shops. They also have salons and cabins with beds to relax and enjoy the full trip.

I took so much ferries from Sardinia to continental Italy, and I can define myself as an expert :). I loved staying outside the bridgeJust read a book, watch the sunset and sunrise, or just look at the horizon and relax. These are the moments when I feel free: the wind on my face and an endless horizon in front of me!

How much will the trip cost me?

Before launching (literally in this case) in this adventure, I had to check all the expenses involved, because the transport costs are those which will influence my budget the most. I have friends in the United Kingdom and Spain, so accommodation is not a real problem.

Flights:

Thanks to low -cost airlines, I will pay around £ 30 from Sardinia in London. I always check flights on Skyscanner.

Trains / bus / car:

I need to consider the cost of London train to Poole, which is about £ 14. I went to see my old faithful Trains Website to examine what companies operate from and to London and prices. Possible! Phewww 🙂

I also needed to calculate the cost of Gijon in Madrid, and below, I found all the details on what to expect in terms of price. As I feel adventurous, I think I will go to the trip (I have contacts in Spain, so it should not be too difficult).

From the United Kingdom to Spain by boat, cheap ferries from the United Kingdom to Spain, from Gijon to Madrid by train or by car

Looking at the card, I decided that I wanted to stop quickly Oviedo.

What is there in Oviedo ?? Call me sentimental, but I loved the film “”Vicky Cristina Barcelona“” Where Javier Bardem invited Scarlett Johanson to spend a romantic weekend in Oviedo.

From what I saw in the film, I found it so fascinating that now I want to see it for myself. Be a road Adventure, I thought .. why not? I love to stop in small villages and look around him anyway; This is the perfect opportunity!

Ferry:

It was one of my main concerns because I know that the cost is quite expensive for the ferries of Sardinia. I watched online to find the best offers from Sardinia to Spain and some cheap ferries The companies operating on these routes.

To my surprise, I found one that offers One -way tickets from £ 47. Not bad at all. I compared this to the Italians and they are 20 to 30% cheaper, depending on the route, the type of on -board vehicle and the type of cabin.

Summary of expenses:

You will find below a quick summary of the average cost for my ideal trip from the United Kingdom to Spain, taking only one plane, a train, a ferry and a car.

Flight: £ 30 + train £ 14 + Ferry £ 47 + car £ 25 £ = Large total £ 116.

Not bad, huh? I seriously consider the idea of this trip. Shame on me. I always wanted to discover a little more Spain (I have never arrived in Madrid) and take this opportunity to visit my dear friends in London.

Edit 2022: I finally reached the Capital of Spain: Madrid 🙂

I also think about other European trips, but I have so much work to do, and so much material to write on my beloved Philippines That I doubt that I will have a lot of time to do more than that.

But I am obsessed with boats, ferries and travel on the road. Since I was back from Asia, I miss it all.

The first days of returning home, sleeping in a comfortable bed is a real blessing, but after a while, my travel bug starts to shout in me, and I cannot say no to the call of nature, right?

What do you think of this crazy little idea? Do you do something similar to explore Europe without spending a fortune?

But above all … Have you ever heard of a Spanish place called Oviedo ??? 🙂
