2) Sardinia – Italy
Sardinia is a very popular destination during the summer months, but unfortunately often neglected during the winter months, which is a shame because the island is not only beautiful beaches and the sea, it has so much more to offer tourists also during the winter.
I work on two massive articles on the The best things to do in Sardinia in winter And in summer (For those who wish to come back and also enjoy the beautiful beaches).
The articles are (almost) ready, but as I want them to be super useful for you, I add as much concrete information as possible, so If you want to know more about my “Wonderland” and what you can live during winterYou can come back in a few months (yes the guides are very detailed!) Or you can Subscribe here And you will receive an email when they are finally ready.
The best activities and things to do during winter in Sardinia:
– Visit the majestic Nuraghe Di Barumini:
Open all year round, this archaeological site will amaze you and it is The most famous Nuraghe complex in Sardinia, listed as one of the UNESCO heritage sites (within reasonable limits!). I will talk a lot about this incredible site in my things to do in the guides of Sardinia, but if you want a preview of What a Nuraghe is (At least!) Check it in here.
Tip of a local Sardinian (alias me!): Try to go there at 1-2 hours before sunset so that you have time to visit the Nuraghe complex, the museum and … Admire the magnificent sky on the fields surrounding the region!
– Hiking at the “Sella del Diavolo”
The Sella del Diavolo or “La Selle du Diable” (name taken after its form) is located in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, at the very beginning of City Beach Poetto. It is A difficult to mediate easy hike where you can admire the incredible views of the city and the crystal clear waters of the rocks on the top.
Advice from a local Sardinian: Make sure you choose a sunny day –Yes, we also have sunny days in winter!– And just amazing by the color of the waters, you will realize that entering it was well worth it! There are organized visits if you do not feel confident to venture alone, But if you want, you can go there alone (Don’t forget to bring a lot of water and a good camera)
– Discover the murals of Orgosolo
Orgosolo is a small village in the region of Barbagia (Central Sardinia) super famous among the inhabitants for its incredible murals scattered in the walls of the village. You can Discover the real essence of Sardinia Without any tourist in sight. If you want to see what a real village in Sardinia looks like, then Orgosolo is definitely an excellent choice!
Tip of a local Sardinian: Do not forget to nod your head politely when you meet elderly residents in the streets, they will really appreciate it! They will not be difficult to spot: men carrying the traditional “Berritta” (a velvet cap) and women with their “Mucadores” (a piece of fabric to cover your head). If women are dressed in black, it means they are widowed.
