During my recent trip to Florida Keys, I was on a mission to find the best lime pie by Key West (and the rest of the keys). It’s great to have an excuse to eat as much dessert as you wish girls’ trip– After all, it’s for research, right? The truth is that key lime pie is not created equal and you will find it fried, frozen, soaked and more. You need really serious research to find the best.
On our way from Key Largo to Key West, we sampered with a key lime flavor: lemon donut keys, key lime muffins, key lime ice cream, lime cocktails, lime chocolates keys and a lot of key lime pie. Here are the ones who really stood out.

Best lemon pie at Key West & Beyond
Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Pie Pie Shoppe

Kermit is an ideal place for coffee or breakfast before going in boat trips. However, in addition to the coffee, they also have a key lime pie shop with traditional, mango, strawberry and my favorite, the lemon pie with a chocolate key on a stick.
You will see a frozen lime pie and covered with chocolate on the keys, but Kermit is one of the best. Their key lime pie is creamy and chocolate is not too thick, which makes it easy to eat before it melts. By the way, the lime pie from the mango is not too shabby either!

Old Town Bakery, Key West

Located in the old town, a bit of a way out of the beats for this Wandering Duval Street, you will find the cute and local Bakery of the old town. They offer coffee, pastries, breads and a unique flavor to their key lime pie. Instead of the traditional graham cookie crust, they use a crushed gingersnap crust. The pie itself is well lemony and tangy, and it is also quite creamy.
If the lemon pie is not your thing, they also have a delicious brownie with a chocolate ganache center. Just be warned that it is big enough to share.

Burdine, marathon

There are two places in the marathon famous for their fried lime pie – Burdine’s and Island Fish Company. I ate in Island Fish Company during my previous trip to Florida Keys, so this time I tried Burdine.
It is difficult to call this key lime pie, but I must say that it may have been my favorite of the trip. It is wrapped in a tortilla style, chemchanga and garnished with cinnamon sugar. Inside, the lemon pie is frozen and has the taste of ice. In fact, everything reminded me of the roller of apple cheese cake eggs that I tried at the Iowa state fair last summer.

Giraffe Blonde Lemon Keys

When you drive through the keys, it is difficult to miss the Giraffe Key Chie Parte Factory in Tavernier. In addition to all kinds of candies and treats of key lime, you will find whole pies as well as slices sprinkled with chocolate, garnished with meringue or chocolate. The wall is cluttered with the prices they have for the different styles of key lime pie.
I really appreciated the traditional slice of key lime pie, which had a beautiful lime flavor and was creamy, but the crust was not thick or hard. In addition, they have a nice garden behind the shop where you can take a break in your journey and enjoy your pie.

Ms. Mac cuisine

Before leaving the keys, stop at the original kitchen of Ms. Mac in Key Largo. It is a favorite with the inhabitants, but all the license plates on the walls will show you that you are not the first tourist to make a standard here.
The lemon pie with Ms. Mac’s kitchen is very dense, almost like a cheesecake. They serve it cold and it has a very good crust of Cracker Graham. The lemon flavor is not very strong, so even if you don’t like lime pie (harshness!), You may want to try it.

What did not cut
I should probably note a few other places that I tried that are not making my list. For example, while I loved my salad and my entry to Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen, their deconstructive lime pie dessert, served with Graham crackers on the side, was not my favorite.
In addition, the lime pie bakery at Key West offers a traditional key lime pie with whipped cream, but I found that the crust was too hard and the slices were a bit small for the price.
We could not try the key lime pie at Blue Heaven, even if it is on my list where to eat in Key West, but I just couldn’t manage it after a big breakfast.
I hope this inspires you to go to your own quest to search for the best lemon pie in the Florida Keys. If you find one, I should try on my next trip, be sure to leave me a line or leave me a message Facebook!
