Discover Milan:

Milan is one of the most trendy cities in Italy. It is the fashion town and the economic capital of Italy. Both traits are clearly visible when you walk in the city. Modern and fashionable skyscrapers dispersed here and there, surrounded by beautiful historical buildings throughout the city center.

Many of the most exciting sites and attractions in Milan are not obvious, you will therefore have to dig deeper to discover the jewels that make the city unique.

Fortunately, Milan is surprisingly accessible on foot and sometimes looks more like a compact city than a large European metropolis.
And once you start to lide to his disturbing exterior, you will find incalculable treasures below the surface: invaluable works of art, beautiful eccentric buildings, world class restaurants and oases of calm. Explore the best things to do in Milan and remember: appearances are not everything.

Discover Lake Como:

The Como is filled with luxury villas that you can visit, like Villa Balbianello here, a perfect setting even for weddings!

The route of your road trip in Italy began in the glorious city of Rome, and it could not end less gloriously in the fantastic lake college.
Do you relax in the shade of a tree in front of the lake, admire its beautiful views … And who knows? You could even locate George Clooney (owner of one of the most beautiful villas in Lake Como), his boyfriend Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise or any other celebrity on list A, but there is so much more at this destination than his famous visitors.

Lake Glacial Como is just 1.5 hours on the north of Milan and only about 30 minutes from the border of Switzerland. The biggest draw by the lake is its natural beauty – especially the picturesque mountainous region that always leaves me impressed.

Jump on the ferries that cross the lake; It is a perfect way to explore the beautiful small towns that surround it like Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna, to mention that some of my favorites.

Things to do in Milan in one day:

In Milan, as previously indicated, it is super easy to move by walking a little or via their effective public services (the underground system is excellent). In this way, you can do a lot in a day.

The most famous things to do in Milan are:

  • The famous Duomo Di Milano: The symbol of the city.
  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II (to the left of the Duomo)
  • Château de Sforza for a little story
  • Parco Sempione to end your day in total relaxation!

Things to do in Lake Como in one day:

Honestly? If it was for me (personal taste!) I would only spend half a day in Milan and I live directly at Lake Como, but the route is yours, then maybe you are a drug addict and you want to spend an afternoon shopping in Milan 🙂 In both cases, Lake Como deserves at least 2 days of exploration.

So what to do and see in Lake Como?

  • Visit Varenna, a charming village with a breathtaking view of the lake.
  • Take the ferry! You will discover the hidden spots as well as the most popular sites.
  • Visit Villa del Balbianello
  • Discover Castello di Vezio for impressive views

The best things to do and see in Milan:

Il Duomo di Milano: Do I really have to tell you why you should visit it? There is so much information online, and the photos speak for themselves. It goes without saying that it should be your first stop in Milan, without a doubt. And it’s as beautiful as in the photos. My only advice: go early in the morning; You will enjoy the experience!

Castello Sforzesco: Close to the Parco Sempione, the Castello Sforzesco (Sforza Castel) is a compulsory stop during your visit to Milan; In addition to his famous towers, he hosts several museums of ancient arts at the Pinacotede and the Egyptian museum, to name just a few. If you like history, it’s an ideal place to visit.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II: Just on the left side of the Duomo Di Milano, its architecture (in particular the roof) will leave you impressed. You will find many stores, from luxury to beautiful cafes where to sip an espresso and relax, bookstores, restaurants and more. As in Piazza Duomo, you can easily make it your second stop in Milan.

The best things to do and see in Lake Como:

Villa del Balbianello: Located on the left wing of the lake, near the village of Lenno, it is a must. Beautiful views of the lake and the villa with its garden on the terrace are truly out of this world! One of the best places to admire the powerful beauty of Lake Como. This is undoubtedly one of the most touristy and popular villas to visit.

Villa Carlotta: A few kilometers from Villa del Balbianello (north of Lenno), it is a real gem with its botanical gardens, its museums, the staircase and the superb entrance to the lake. Not to be missed! (I will write an article just so that the villas visit Lake Como because they are breathtaking!)

Take the ferry: One of the best ways to enjoy Lake Como is Ferry. There are public and private ferries. The public is relatively cheap, but obviously it does not allow you to go out to explore what you want. You can find private online companies looking for private “ferry lake como” “or, as I suggest below, I would recommend Milan’s visit without the hassle of driving and returning.

More things to do and see in Milan

I Navigli di Milano: A system of channels flowing in the heart of Milan, surrounded by beautiful cocktail bars, is the ideal place to spend your dinner and your time after dinner, not to be missed for an excellent aperitif. Ideal for a romantic promenade at sunset. It is easy to reach by public transport, which is always a bonus!

Parco Sempione: Located in the heart of Milan, Parco Sempione is a charming park where you can relax, cool and visit the Castel Sforza and the Arc de la Paix, two of the most famous monuments in Milan.

Via Montenapoléone: If you are in Milan and you like fashion, via Montenapoleone is the place you want to be! Filled with luxury shops, whatever the brand you are looking for, you will find there! Enlighten as much as you wish and enjoy!

Best visits to Lake Como:

Given the proximity of Lake Como with Milan, you can opt to book one of the large visits to the Lombardy capital instead of spending money (and time) to use your car. Many people choose this option, and they can enjoy a full day in Lake Como without stress and see all the best sites set out above.

Usually, when I talk about visits, my advice is to decide which option suits you the most (car or visit), but in this case, day excursions from Milan are really the best option, also in terms of money. Highly recommended!
