When Summer in the Ocean State offers us farewells, fall welcomes us with an abundance of timeless family traditions. Picking apples in Rhode Island is one of these autumn activities. Gather the family by a clear fall day and head to one of the apple orchards near the Rhode Island and allow you to be submerged.
If family pleasure in the fall of fall is not enough to go to your local orchard, think of all the goodness of the apple that you can do afterwards! I already dream of apple pie, apple shoemaker, apple sauce and, of course, apple cider donuts!

Best apple orchards in Rhode Island
There are so many places to choose RIE apples. Below you will find a sample of some of my local favorites for apple picking near Providence RI.
Barden Family Orchard, North Scituate

What started with a few apple trees in 1931 has now become an abundant farm of fruits and vegetables and was even presented on PBS! In addition to the apples, Barden Family Orchard also pushes peaches, blueberries, raspberries, sweet corn, pumpkins, etc.
Barden offers “Pick Your-Own” from early September to early November or the first hard freezing. There are a wide variety of apple grape varieties available to choose. When you visit, you must pre-buy a bag of different sizes on the agricultural market. During the harvest season, visitors who do not choose apples have to pay $ 15 entrance fees for each adult and $ 10 for each child seven years and over.
The farm stand is open daily from August 1 to Halloween and offers fresh fruit, corn, apple cider on site, apple cider donuts, jams, honey, syrup and other local specialties.
Barden Family Orchard is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, Saturday, Sunday and vacation from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Barden Family Orchard is located at 56 Elmdale Road North Scituate, RI 02857
Lady Farm, Johnston

Dame Farm offers a picking of flowers in summer and a picking of apples in the fall. This family farm has existed for seven generations and has gone from dairy farming to apple orchards and now magnificent fields of flowers. The farm is still managed by the family and four generations can be found on the farm today.
When Apple picks Dame Farm, customers must pre-buy a picking bag and there is a minimum purchase required according to the size of your group for everyone 10 years and over.
In addition to picking apples, the farm stand offers fresh products, fall decorations, flowers and freshly picked fruits. There are many photo opportunities spread over the farm to capture family memories.
Lady’s farm is located at 91b Brown avenue Johnston, RI 02919
Jaswell’s Farm, Smithfield

Located in the heart of “Apple Valley”, Jaswell’s Farm has been active since 1899. Still managed by the family, now in its fourth generation, Jaswell’s Farm has even been appointed the 7th best apple orchard in the United States to visit the United States.
In addition to apple picking, Jaswell’s operates an impressive stand and farm market that reopens at the end of July. They do some of my favorite apple cider donuts in the state … especially when you can get them when they are hot! You will also find an apple pie, apple turnover and other delicious bakery products.
The Jaswell farm has 14 varieties of apples to choose. Apple picking is in the pounds and they provide a bag or basket for picking and you pay once finished.

Knight Farm, North Scituate

Knight Farm is a Pic-Vourde orchard which also has a breakfast / lunch restaurant, an ice cream store and a bakery of cider donuts. Built in 1800, Knight Farm has been active for over 200 years. This farm even houses a historic cemetery.
Visit the bakery to buy your bag before choosing. The orchard is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. seven days a week during the season. The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. all year round, excluding Christmas.

Ghost farms, Cumberland
This farm can lack surface area, but it has a market for country -minded producers. Over the years, the market has expanded to become a local favorite for coffee, pastry and specialized products, including pies.
Phantom Farms is still expanding, but while these trees are increasing, the public picking is limited, so be sure to go early in the season and keep an eye on many special autumn events. You can also pick up a beautiful fall decor while you are there.
Phantom Farms is located at 2920 Diamond Hill Road Cumberland, RI 02864
Pippin Orchard, Cranston

From their bakery products such as apple cider, honey, fresh farm eggs, jams, apples and more, Pippin Orchard covered with autumn (and fun) food. Pippin cultivates eight varieties of apples: Macintosh, Empire, Cortland, Gala, HoneyyCrisp, Macoun, Jonagold and Red Delicious. What is unique in this orchard is that they encourage you to try the apples before choosing because the trees are not marked. They provide small baskets throughout the orchard to eliminate your eaten cores!
In addition, this orchard is perfect for the little ones because it is closed and the trees are on a hill, so you can see under the line of the trees almost all the way! Parking is limited and parking in the street is the second option. Be ready to walk because it is a popular place for families in the fall.
The apples are billed by bag, not by book, so visit the farm stand to buy a bag before starting.
